Here’s a CAD tip for anyone who has experienced having a hatch pattern cover up linework in a drawing, when you want the linework to display “in front of” the hatch pattern. This issue often comes up in xreffed drawings, but may also affect “live” drawings.

This CAD tip comes from working with some of the best CADDsters around, and will not be found in any AutoCAD textbook. It involves creating a temporary “handle” object for a Move or Copy operation, in order to ensure that the base and destination points are placed exactly where you intend them to be.

The Zoom Extents command provides a great test to judge the orderliness of your drawing. Ideally, there will be very little empty space visible in your work area after executing the Zoom Extents command.
